After graduating from Boise State University, Doug embarked on his insurance career with Fireman’s Fund in Salt Lake City in 1976. With nearly five decades of experience in the insurance industry, he began as a casualty underwriter, honing his expertise for four years before transitioning to the agency side. Doug has successfully specialized in insurance and bonding for construction companies and later expanded his services to include risk management for real estate developers.
In 2009, Doug joined the Buckner Company as its first Idaho employee. His unique blend of practical experience and extensive education has equipped him with profound knowledge on navigating the complex risks that his clients face daily. Doug’s commitment to continuous learning has not only kept him current with industry trends but has also positioned him ahead of evolving risk challenges.
He holds prestigious designations, including Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), Construction Risk Insurance Specialist (CRIS), and Accredited Advisor in Insurance (AAI). Doug actively participates in industry seminars to enhance his understanding of the latest developments in the insurance landscape, particularly in relation to construction and real estate.
Doug is passionate about insurance, especially its intersection with construction and real estate development. He thrives on assisting clients in overcoming surety bond and insurance coverage challenges, demonstrating an exceptional ability to negotiate reasonable solutions with project owners and insurance carriers. Outside of his professional endeavors, Doug cherishes spending time with his wife, Michelle, of 49 years, as well as their two Corgis. He is exceptionally proud of his three children and their beautiful families, and his six grandchildren bring him joy beyond measure.
