After graduating from Boise State University, Doug began his insurance career with Fireman’s Fund in Salt Lake City in 1976. After 4 years as a casualty underwriter, he left the insurance company ranks and joined the agency business specializing in insurance and bonding for construction companies, later expanding into working with real estate developers on their risk management needs. Doug joined the Buckner Company in 2009 as its first Idaho employee. Through both practical experience and classroom learning, Doug has gained a significant level of knowledge on the best way to handle the challenging risks that these industries face daily. Doug holds his Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter designation (CPCU), Construction Risk Insurance Specialist designation (CRIS), and Accredited Advisor in Insurance designation (AAI). He attends industry seminars regularly to stay current on the evolving insurance industry and how it best serves the construction and real estate industries.
Doug loves insurance and particularly how it relates to construction and real estate development. Beyond that he enjoys helping his clients solve the challenges they have on surety bond support and insurance questions including negotiating with project owners to find reasonable solutions to issues.
